I got into triathlon by accident one year ago when a buddy of mine dared me to sign up for a sprint race. Well, let¹s just say that crossing that finish line back in the late summer of 2000 changed my life.
Since then, I¹ve participated in many triathlons...All the way up to the 1/2 Ironman distance.
You see, when I started this thing, I was by no means an athlete. I had no experience (formal training) in any of the three disciplines. I had not looked at or studied my nutrition. Working out was something I knew people did...But never really concentrated on myself.
My friend, colleague, peer and former winner of many, many triathlons (including shorter distances at Wildflower!), Quanah Ridenour got me into this sport. He suggested I try the sprint/short distance. He "lent" me a tri bike, which he offered to sell "if I liked the sport."
Well, I finished the Tiburon Triathlon in August of 2000, and that was it. I wrote him a check and I was the proud owner of a TT bike. So then started my love affair with this sport.
I have had two semi-ok performances at Wildflower (Long Course) and am very, very excited about coming up there this spring. I'm training differently. I have a nutrition plan figured out and I am being coaching in all three disciplines. I'm looking to have SO MUCH FUN this May!
So, thank you all in advance for all the work I know you are bound to do to make this thing happen. Take care, and good luck to US ALL!
