Irvine, Calif. – December 18, 2008 – Get ready to get in the saddle for a good cause, registration is now open for Chain Reaction, a three-day charity Spinning® event benefiting HealthCorps® and its fight against childhood obesity. The event is hosted by Star Trac®, Spinning®, and the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA), and is set for March 17 through 19 during the 2009 IHRSA tradeshow at San Francisco’s Moscone Center, North Hall. Those interested in participating can register at joinchainreaction.org or active.com.
Chain Reaction was created to help HealthCorps extend its proactive health movement nationally, encouraging and educating high school students to live a healthy, active lifestyle. The event brings together celebrities, fitness enthusiasts, professional athletes and companies for a fun, high-energy event to reach the $1 million fundraising goal to establish HealthCorps’ groundbreaking curriculum in more schools within the coming year.
Star Trac, a leader in the commercial fitness industry, building on its Expect Different initiatives to encourage all people to live a healthy, active lifestyle has partnered with HealthCorps to organize the massive initiative and high-energy fitness event. Founded by Dr. Mehmet Oz, HealthCorps encourages and educates American youth and families to “Eat Smart and Exercise” by providing them with knowledge, tools and support to make healthy choices.
Dr. Oz, cardiac surgeon and host of the upcoming syndicated “Dr. Oz Show” from Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions, was motivated to start HealthCorps after treating younger and younger adult patients requiring extensive surgery on blocked arteries.
Please visit www.joinchainreaction.org for additional information on the Chain Reaction ride. There is a minimum fundraising goal of $75 per person, per hour and all riders will receive a special gift bag for their participation.
HealthCorps® www.HealthCorps.org, a proactive health movement responding to the crisis of obesity in America through school-based peer-mentoring and community events and outreach to underserved populations, was founded in 2003 by Dr. Mehmet Oz. For the future, HealthCorps plans to bring its 45-school program to additional states, launch a consumer education program and evolve into the most trusted brand for proactive health and wellness in America by prioritizing prevention and personal responsibility.
