Long Course Triathlon

Swim Course

The 1.2 mile swim course will begin at the Lynch Ramp. There will be approximately 18 wave starts with Professional Men, Professional Women, Age Group Men, Age Group Women, and Relay Teams. Swimmers will swim in a clockwise direction on a rectangular course. The course will have sailboats with bright objects attached to their masts as the corners, and there will be course marker buoys every 100 yards along with lifeguards on kayaks lining the course. The swimmers will exit the water, go up the ramp, through the timing area and into the transition area.

Bike Course

The course is 56 miles long and is considered relatively difficult. The bike portion of the course will be marked by Large Yellow Diamonds.

Triathletes leave the transition area to the north and make a quick left through the finish line chute.

Proceed around the store and follow the road down Shoreline Drive to the beach area.

Follow the road as it turns right up "Beach Hill", a very steep 1 mile climb.

Turn right on San Antonio Drive and head out of the park.

Turn right on Interlake Road past the first check point at mile six. Bicyclists will proceed on Interlake Road over rolling hills

Make another right turn at Jolon Road (19 miles). Triathletes will have small rolling hills along Jolon Road and will be able to enjoy the downhill ride from mile 26 to 32

At mile 32, turn right on Nacimiento Road and head for the dreaded "Nasty Grade"

At mile 34 follow Nacimiento left up "Nasty Grade", a nearly five mile grade which climbs 1000 feet from bottom to top of "Heart Rate Hill." Polar will be taking athletes heart rates.

Turn right again at the top of the hill back onto Interlake Road

At the 50 mile point, turn right San Antonio Drive and head back to the park,

Turn left down Lynch Hill for the final descent

Dismount before entering the transition area through the Bike In Chute


Bike Course Aid Stations

There will be 7 Aid Stations on the Bike Course. Earth Water, Gatorade Endurance, fruit, PowerBar and PowerGel will be provided.

Mile 6 (Fruit, PowerBar, Gatorade Endurance and Earth Water)
Mile 12 (Gatorade Endurance and Earth Water)
Mile 19 (Gatorade Endurance and Earth Water)
Mile 26 (Fruit, PowerBar, PowerGel, Gatorade Endurance and Earth Water)
Mile 35.5 (Gatorade Endurance and Earth Water)
Mile 42 (Gatorade Endurance and Earth Water)
Mile 48 (Fruit PowerBars, Gatorade Endurance and Earth Water).

PowerGel will only be provided on Mile 26 of the Bike Course. We strongly recommend that participants carry additional aid on the course. Bottles may be refilled at any Aid Station.

Run Course

The 13.1 mile run course is 60 % trails and 40% roads. The run portion of the course will be marked by Small Yellow Diamonds.

Triathletes will depart the transition area to the southwest

Climb the Lynch Ramp stairs

Turn left on the trail below the resort store lawn

Cross the bridge and proceed down the beach access road through "Beach City"

At the base of "Beach Hill" Continue straight off of the road and on to the trails along the shoreline.

Follow the trails until Harris Creek campgrounds

Follow the paved road as it turns right past the launch ramp for a short climb up the hill.

At mile 3 turn left onto the back country trails. The trail follows the creek to Long Valley with two steep hills to climb out the other side at 5.7 miles.

Triathletes proceed back into the park alongside the road on trails and fire roads.

Turn right through Redondo Vista Campgrounds

Turn right again after the TNT camp site area and follow the trails to the overflow camping area.

Return to the roads at the 9 mile point, making a right turn at San Antonio Drive

Triathletes proceed up the road and down the hill to the PowerBar turn-around point

At 10 miles they will have a chance to see where their competition is as they race back up the hill and proceed back on San Antonio Drive

Turn right down the Lynch Hill and to the finish chute and finish line for victory.


Run Course Aid Stations

There will be 13 aid stations on the run course. Earth Water and Gatorade Endurance will be provided at all aid stations. The official energy bar, PowerBar, official gel, PowerGel, and fruit will be provided at some of the aid stations. We encourage participants to purchase and train on these product prior to the race.

Mile 9.8 (Earth Water and Gatorade Endurance)
Mile 10.6 (Earth Water and Gatorade Endurance) 
Mile 12 (Earth Water and Gatorade Endurance)
Finish Line (Water, Gatorade Endurance, PowerBars, PowerGel, Fruit, and Strawberry's)

Course Closures

The AVIA Wildflower Triathlons Festival have established course closures for each portion of the triathlon. These closures are based upon the start time of the last individual age group wave and are for the safety of participants and volunteers.

Long Course Cut Off Times:

Swim: 10:30 AM (1:05 after the start of the last wave)

Bike: 2:45 PM (5:20 after the start of the last wave)

Run: 5:45 PM (8:20 after the start of the last wave)
