The AVIA Wildflower Triathlons at Lake San Antonio in Monterey County California, will be hosting the Wildflower Collegiate Championships. The Collegiate Championship will be held at the Olympic Distance Triathlon on Sunday, May 4 2008. Participants will compete in an official Olympic Distance Course (1.5 kilometer lake swim, 40 kilometer bike, and 10 kilometer run).

The Wildflower Collegiate Championship has individual and team categories in which colleges can participate. The event is held in conjunction with the Wildflower Triathlons, which is the second largest triathlon in the United States. In addition to the Collegiate Championship, the weekend includes a Mountain Bike Triathlon and the Long Course Event.

WHAT: Wildflower Collegiate Championships Olympic Distance Triathlon.

WHO: College Triathletes, (Undergraduate and Graduate) currently enrolled in a college or university, during the 2007-2008 school year, and carrying at least 9 units concurrently; or a letter from the college for special program status with less than 9 units, are eligible to participate.

INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION: The individual categories will include male and female divisions, in an open age group. The top three male and female finishers will receive a special commemorative award plaque. Fourth through tenth place finishers will receive medals.

TEAM COMPETITION: In the team competition, the top three male and female team members' times are combined for a total team time. Awards will be presented to the top five teams and their team members.

WHEN: Sunday, May 4, 2008. Race starts at 9:00am

WHERE: Lake San Antonio, California. (Southern most portion of Monterey County). Lake San Antonio is a 5000 acre lake 80 miles north of Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, California. It is the home of the Wildflower Triathlons, the second largest event in the world.

DRIVING TIME: From Los Angeles, 5 hours; from San Francisco, 3 hours; from San Jose: 2-1/2 hours; from Monterey: 2 hours; from San Luis Obispo: 1 hour.

TRAVEL: The nearest airports to Lake San Antonio are San Luis Obispo and Monterey Peninsula Airports. Both are serviced by American Airlines/American Eagle. Both airports are accessible from San Jose, San Francisco or Los Angeles Airports. Many teams fly into San Francisco, San Jose or Los Angeles and rent cars or busses and drive down/up.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Lodging is limited, and most participants camp at the race site. Lake San Antonio is a County Park in a rural portion of Monterey County. The nearest hotel/motel accommodations are either in King City (45 miles north of the race site), or in Paso Robles (26 miles south of the race site). Camping is available on a first-come first-served basis at the Lake San Antonio campgrounds. See camping page on this web site. There will be a camping loop set aside for collegiate teams.

HOW: Each team member must complete an on-line application form from the Tri-California web site. Prior to March 1st. The championships are limited to the first 500 collegiate competitors. (100% of the applications must be completed online this year) Team members should complete the credit card payment portion of the application unless the school or team is paying for the team members.

If the school or team is paying for the team members entries in one payment, when you get to the pre-payment section select "Pre-paid by College pre-approved." All collegiate team members must be an annual member of USA Triathlon. Each member will be required to show his/her membership card to pick up his/her race packet. If the member does not have the USAT card number when registering type in "pending." The school or team director must contact the Tri-California office at (831) 373-0678 and make arrangements to send a team roster and payment. You may also make payment for camping passes at this time. (refer to the camping page on this web site for prices.)

The team roster must include the first and last name of each member, their sex, age, hometown, year in school and any pertinent race information. Once the final team roster is sent to Tri-California, we are not responsible for names left off the roster and not scored in the overall combined time. * A 10% discount, in the form of a rebate on the race entry, will be issued to schools with more than ten students registered on their team. The rebates will be mailed out by August 1, 2008. Team Captains Must Complete the College Enrollment Form and submit with the proper payee and address for the rebate check to be sent.

ELIGIBILITY FOR OTHER RACES: All top ten individual finishers are also eligible to compete in the USA Triathlon National Amateur Championship for a slot on the USA World Cup team.
