*USAT announces new rules for "Age Group Division" in 2006 - After great discussion, the USAT Board voted to use an athlete's age as of Dec. 31 to determine his/her racing age group. If an athlete is due to "age-up" into the next group, it will happen at the beginning of the year, not after the athlete's birthday. This action aligns regular U.S. age group racing with the method used by USA Triathlon for its National Rankings Program and its new Grand Prix Series.
The Olympic Distance Triathlon also has a Relay Division. Relay teams consist of a swimmer, a cyclist, and a runner. Youth Relay Teams: all team members 19 years old or younger. Masters Relay Teams: all team members must be 40 years or older. Super Masters Relay Teams: all members must be 60 years or over. Open Relay Teams: members may be any age. Relay team members may be either sex. Corporate Relay Teams must be comprised of employees, family members or friends and may be of any age or sex. Awards will be given to the top relay team in each division.
The Sprint Distance Triathlon has relay teams for the Youth Division Only. All members of the team must be 18 years or under. Divisions include: youth boys, youth girls and youth mixed.
