San Francisco Triathlon International Triathlon (1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run)

Saturday. The Olympic Distance Triathlon is a great end to the 2008 season competing on the picturesque Treasure Island banks. The Swim Course will be in the bay in the harbor area. The Bike Course will begin at the transition area on the north side of the harbor and be a technical course on the streets of Treasure Island. The bike course will be six loops. The Run Course will begin at the transition area and proceed in a counter clockwise direction along the banks of Treasure Island on an out and back course (three laps). The Olympic Distance Race for amateurs will begin at 7:15 a.m. and end at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The Elite Race will feature the USA Triathlon Elite Draft Legal Triathlon starting at noon and end at approximately 2:15 p.m.

Tri-California Elite Series Championships

This will be the featured race of the day. The Top Elite Male and Female Triathletes from around the world will compete head to head for cash of $40,000 (1st- $5,000, 2nd-$4,000, 3rd-$3,000, 4th- $2,000, 5th- $1,500, 6th- $1200, 7th- $1,000 8th- $900, 9th- $800, 10th- $600) and prizes.

The Tri-Cal Elite Series Triathletes will be competing for an additional $28,000 Championship prize money (1st- $4,000, 2nd-$3,000, 3rd-$2,000, 4th- $1,000, 5th- $900, 6th- $800, 7th- $600, 8th- $600, 9th- $500, 10th- $500).

Sprint Distance Triathlon (0.5k swim, 20k bike and 5k run) Sunday.

The Sprint Distance Triathlon course provides all the challenges and rewards of Treasure International Distance, designed for quick racing. The Swim Course will again be in the bay in the harbor area. The Bike Course will begin at the transition area on the north side of the harbor and be a technical course on the streets of Treasure Island. It will not utilize Yerba Buena Island or the Avenue of the Palms on Treasure Island to allow for resident traffic. The bike course will be three loops. The Run Course will begin at the transition area and proceed in a counter clockwise direction along California Boulevard and Avenue N (2 loops). The Sprint Distance Race for amateur will begin at 7:15 a.m. and end at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Activities

The San Francisco Triathlon at Treasure Island Triathlon offers several activities throughout the weekend including several pre-event clinics on Friday at 1:00PM, 4:00PM, and 7:00PM, and a 3-day sport & fitness expo. The Great Lawn, the outside area of Building 180 and surrounding areas will become a hub of activity taking on a festival atmosphere on race day.
